OUR LOVE FOR SASHA

After having to face the hard reality that my husband and I, were not able to have children of our own, together we had decisions we needed to make. For both of us it was apparent we needed more in our lives. Our decision had to be a practical one, both feeling the need to nurture and share our love with more than just one another and our families.

Our need to share and care for another is what led us to one of the most wonderful alternatives, much more than even we imagined. We decided that we would have what we expected to be a pet and were soon to find out she would be so much more.

This journey for us was not to be an easy one. Our first attempt was to be what I consider another great heartbreak for us both. We had purchased a wonderful little Shepherd puppy. From the very beginning we knew it was right for us, and we named her Sheba. As we knew it would, she brought us great joy. Not knowingly, we thought it would be nice for her to have a playmate for the time that my husband and I are at work, someone to play with and have for company. Soon this was to become another one of life’s heartbreaks for us, unaware of a deadly virus we were to loose both of our new arrivals. Knowing and realizing the great joy they brought to us for the short time they were with us, we were determined to become acutely aware of the possibilities and problems that could occur and how to avoid all possibilities of such.

This is what led us to Renee, and what now has become one of the greatest joys in our lives, our dog Sasha. Without Renee and her thoughtfulness, kindness, understanding, concern and great knowledge the joy and happiness we now have would not have been possible, that now we can enjoy with Sasha. Renee took her time and explained to us all we needed to know concerning our newfound family member, yes Sasha is not just a pet she is part of our family. Renee is responsible for our acquiring Sasha not long after our heartfelt loss of our 2 original puppies. Because of her honesty, dependability and caring nature Renee will always be close to our hearts.

Sasha came to us at 4 months old a wonderful healthy, bright eyed, frisky pup. We knew from the moment we laid eyes on her this was going to be a wonderful experience. We also have a Pekinese at home who would also come to be close to Sasha, and his name is Gizmo. Gizmo and Sasha hit it off right from the start and have become close as well. Now almost a year and a half later our entire family is very close, our dogs are not our pets, but part of the family. We have since taken Sasha in for obedience training and she did very well in her class.

Sasha especially brings us all the joy and more than we could have ever expected. It is so wonderful to wake up in the morning and have her waiting at the bed for us to wake up, and from the moment we do she has our attention. It usually begins by her getting her hugs and kisses every morning,   or playing her version of  peek-a-boo,  or we play ball,  or maybe I chase her around the coffee table until she decides it’s time for her to chase me.

She’s always full of energy, but still is a great joy to wake up to. My husband and myself always make sure we find time for her before leaving for work, and all three of us get a pretty good workout in the morning.

It’s great to come home at the end of our day and find them both anxiously waiting for us. From the moment we come in the door our attentions are required. Sasha enjoys dancing with me, she puts her paws on my shoulders and we dance. Then we play ball for a bit,  or we use my husband’s old T-shirts and knot them up for her to use as a toy. Of course she goes through them faster then he can supply them. We play with her white sheet that she loves to be completely covered with. After some play time it’s time for her to brush her teeth, all I ever have to do is get out the paste and the toothbrush and she is more then willing to have this done. She just sits and enjoys.

After a while Sasha is back after Gizmo.  Sasha will edge him or chase him around, anything to get his attention.   He may be small but when he’s had enough, and let’s her know. They do enjoy one another though. There are times when Sasha will grab hold of Gizmo’s tail and drag him to the other side of the room, then he goes back and she does it again,   as long as he is willing.

Sasha eagerly awaits bedtime. As soon as she sees my husband get up and head for the bedroom she’s off. She shares our room with us. Sasha and my husband are almost always in bed before me. She will come out of the bedroom and look at me like she’s trying to say, " Mom, It’s bedtime, come on".

We have made a wonderful alternative choice on our lives,  and it brings us great joy to have our little family to enjoy one another.  I am deeply grateful for what we now have and without our wonderful friend Renee,  I don’t think all we have would be possible. She has helped us in every way she can to maintain, and nurture a most wonderful and enjoyable experience with Sasha. We are deeply grateful to her,  and all her kindness and knowledge, and her assistance in bringing us all together. Sasha as well as Gizmo have become a very important part of our lives,  and bring us much joy.
